Local Lifestyle

Kerrville offers locals a spread-out suburban feel with a thriving arts and culture scene. Historic downtown Kerrville is where the locals love to shop and dine. Storefronts harken back to Kerrville’s earliest days, while Water Street overlooks the Guadalupe.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

To start their morning off on the best foot, locals grab a coffee and breakfast bites at Rails Cafe, a perfectly restored 1915 train depot. Billy Gene’s is the place to go for all the best of the Texas Hill Country, with their fish tacos and Bill Gene burger bringing locals back for more. The Pinnacle Grill & Chophouse is a chic, upscale American eatery, while Grape Juice is the wine store of choice for many residents.

Located on Water Street, Arcadia Live is one of Kerrville’s best live music venues, a stunning riverside theater where locals can participate in community programs like Thirsty Thursday trivia nights or attend concerts by groups like Reckless Kelly and Jackopierce. The Threadgill Memorial Theater also puts on live concerts at their outdoor venue on Quiet Valley Ranch. For theater performances, there’s the Cailloux Theater on Main Street and Playhouse 2000 on Washington.

Some of the cutest shops in Kerrville can be found in the town’s historic downtown core on Water Street, just south of Main Street. Tomé Boutique is a chic spot for women’s fashions, as is Ravished by Design. For homewares, Crickets is a smart choice, or there’s Schreiner Goods Home. But shopping in Kerrville doesn’t just happen downtown. There’s also the River Hills Mall on Sidney Baker Street and a host of treasure-filled antique shops like the Sunrise Antique Mall.

Things to Do

Fun things to do in Kerrville extend from dining and shopping to some excellent community festivals, museums, and galleries. The Museum of Western Art showcases some of the best pieces by living artists who call the western United States home. Rotating exhibits mean the museum feels fresh at every visit. The Schreiner Mansion is a stunning piece of architecture from the late 1870s that was once a home for Captain Charles Schreiner but is now a museum of local history. There’s also the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center which strives to support local artists and increase arts awareness and engagement through community programming.

For an afternoon of outdoor recreation, Kerrville’s River Trail is a 6-mile walking trail that connects to a number of trailheads like the RNC, Louise Hays, and the Schreiner University trailhead. As far as festivals go, Kerrville has some great ones. The Kerrville Folk Festival is a local favorite, with ten days of live music every October. In late January and early February, there’s the Kerrville Renaissance Festival and the free Kerrville River Festival in September.
